The under-kimono garment
Nagajuban is an undergarment worn under the formal kimono. That is similar to the formal kimono, but it is thinner than normal fabric and the length is shorter, and is not worn under yukata, or most any clothing except a formal kimono.
Usually it is white, but various pale colors are sometimes used. The primary purpose to wear the Nagajuban is to provide shape to the kimono, and its white collar is visible above the collar of the formal kimono. To wear the Nagajuban it is necessary to have a koshi-himo cord ,which is then covered with a thin inner obi, called a Date-obi. Date-obi is worn to to keep formal Obi on the kimono from getting wrinkled.
